Nitraded Steel is a sheet of heat-treated steel to which nitrogen is added. Nitrogen's function is to increase the material's rigidity, thereby making it harder and more stable when played, thereby extending the time between retunings. This form of material is initially utilized for the production of Hangs by panArt and is subsequently utilized by Handpan, Pantam, and sound-sculpture manufacturers.

Nitraded Steel Pantam
Despite the fact that modern Handpans are made of both Nitraded Steel and Stainless Steel (read more about stainless here), Nitraded Steel appears to have the greater market demand. This material has a mid-range sustain, a ceramic and clay-like tone, and a high note frequency, which makes it suitable for outdoor use. In addition, the clearer and more distinct sound of the notes makes the nitraded steel handpan superior for quicker and more professional playing.
